Home Security Systems

Home security systems are electronic apparatuses that are hooked up in your home and, in a number of ways, help to keep out burglars and other intruders. They can include alarms, closed circuit cameras, warning signs, and more. Every homeowner wants to ensure the security of his home. Most home owners leave no stone unturned to make their homes less vulnerable to burglars and undesirable elements. Home security systems are the perfect solution to make one’s home well protected. They can be an effective measure to ward off potential intruders.

A wireless security system provides the same functionality at a more effective and convenient manner. Today, in a modern age where he word ‘wireless’ has become a very common term, like most gadgets, the security system, too, has gone wireless. Wireless security systems have no cables or chords emanating from them. If the size and shape of the camera is made in such a way that it camouflages itself with the surroundings, that’s exactly what we want.

It is imperative that those trying to make their homes secure have the right knowledge about how to install a reliable home security system. The basic fact still is that one needs to understand the mechanism of these home security systems.

Wireless home security systems that use wireless cameras have many benefits over traditional security systems you should be aware of in order to best protect yourself, your family and property. Many individuals are unaware of how vulnerable their typical security system is because of the fact that the wiring used in the system can be easily compromised.

It may be noted that today a lot of homes in various countries prefer to use these home security systems, and indeed they come a long way in securing their homes. One can even say that security systems are a milestone as far as security is concerned. And the revolution has just begun.

Tips For Securing Your Home

Exterior security tips for your home begins at your street, because that is where most burglars often begin evaluating your house. The appearance of your home from the street can either invite intruders or send them looking for easier targets.

So let us head to the curb for a burglar's eye view of your home. Start by examining the landscaping around your home. Overgrown or badly placed shrubs can provide convenient hiding places, and they obscure your view of anyone approaching your home. Tree branches near the house can provide a ladder of opportunity to upper level windows or a skylight. Even an unruly lawn, which gives a nobody's home look, can be a magnet for burglars.

How easy is it to get to the windows and doors of your home? A burglar will assess how quickly and quietly he can get in and out of your home. An unfenced backyard that opens on an alley or an attached garage that does not have windows visible from the street or a neighbour's house can make for undetected access and exit. Pick up the yard and driveway regularly, because old papers piling up by the front door are a signal that the home's empty or that nobody uses the front door. Ladders, picnic tables, and lawn chairs can become steps to reach windows so store them out of sight when not in use.

Saw off branches close to the house or those that hang over the roof. On taller trees near the house, remove all limbs less than seven feet from the ground to prevent anyone from climbing them to access the second floor. Cut back or remove tall shrubs near doors and walkways. The same goes for plantings that block the view to your windows, especially basement windows. Keep plantings trimmed to a height of three feet or shorter.

Use gravel or pebbles under windows and around sheds, because it is noisy underfoot. Plant low growing thorny bushes. Clear the view to your neighbour's homes by trimming back bushes and trees. While you may enjoy your privacy, allowing your neighbours a clear view of the exterior of your home is a smart security choice.

The overwhelming array of options in home automation can stress out even the most organized of people when it comes to constructing a home. Most home electronics choices are limited to the consumer's knowledge of what is possible. Have you consider what an automation system could provide you?

A home automation system could play different music in each room, save energy by adjusting shading of natural light, pause the television when the doorbell rings, as input switches to a camera view of the front door. Other services that can be provide is that one set of controls to manage all of your home electronics, keep your family safe and secure, whether home or away, and even broadcast the home theatre to the rest of the house.

Do you have a morning wakeup routine? A home automation system can assist you with your wakeup. Automation could gently ramp the lighting in your bedroom from off to fully on over the course of ten minutes, after your alarm clock has sounded. When you climb out of bed, the touch screen in your room will show the current weather, while the television has been turned on and tuned to your morning news channel. Then walk into the bathroom and hear your favourite radio station over the speakers.

As you head to the kitchen, grab a cup of coffee that your coffee pot automatically brewed, and hear a reminder announced that, "Today is a special day." When it is time to leave for work, just press a command on your touch screen to secure your home while you are away. Receive a photo alert if someone rings the doorbell while you are gone, and then use your cell phone to open the garage door to let them in if necessary.

Home Security Systems - Two For Safety

It is not enough to be thinking about home security systems. If a security system is on your mind, then you need to take action and not just think about it. You may not require one for your whole house, but at least an alarm or camera to cover an area of your home that you feel is most vulnerable.

Keeping your doors and windows locked is such an easy challenge for an educated burglar or intruder. If he is determined enough, he will get in your house. A home security system is the answer and the persuasion needed to change his mind.

Think of the vulnerable areas around the house where a home security system is needed. Here are a few ideas: Dark or dimly lit windows and doors that are partially hidden by trees or shrubs; sides of your house not visible to streets and neighbours; basement windows that are not locked or maintained; outbuildings and sheds or garages that are not locked.

In the title of this article, two for safety refers to two types of home security systems to consider. The first one we will refer to is the Home Alarm. This is a good course of action because you want to prevent the intruder from penetrating the perimeter of your home. There are alarms that attach to windows and doors that serve their purpose well. If it is an area just inside your home that needs protection, there are motion sensor alarms that will sound when movement is detected.

The second type of home security systems is the surveillance camera, or home security camera. Again, these cameras are set up around the perimeter of your home. Doing this enables a chance to catch the culprit in the act of breaking and entering, vandalism, destruction of property or even a "peeping tom". The most popular model of this security system allows the owner to monitor what the security camera views on his TV set. Most home-owners will also record this on their VCR. This provides actual proof of any violation to law enforcement officials.

Many people would just buy a dog for their home security systems, and that's okay. However, when your are away from home, you won't have to be concerned about feeding the dog, letting him in and out, or even getting him to the vet. These electronic security systems do it all without the extra care.

Home security systems have come a long way with technology. They are now more affordable and can be installed by you without referring to a professional.

We encourages every home owner to visit this website: http://www.securityideasonline.com . It is never too late to start protecting your home, loved ones, property and valuables. The protective devices on this website are affordable and effective.

How to View Video Surveillance

Surveillance video is ultimately viewed by human beings. Most surveillance video is never viewed. Of the video that is viewed, the most common use is for historical investigations. Some surveillance video is viewed live continuously, generally in retail (to spot shoplifters) and in public surveillance (to identify criminal threats. Most live video surveillance is done periodically in response to a called-in threat or to check up on the status of a remote facility.

4 fundamental options exist for viewing video.

* Local Viewing directly from the DVR, NVR or servers is ideal for monitoring small facilities on site. This lets the video management system double as a viewing station, saving you the cost of setting up or using a PC. This approach is most common in retailers, banks and small businesses.
* Remote PC Viewing is the most common way of viewing surveillance video. In this approach, standard PCs are used to view live and recorded video. Either a proprietary application is installed on the PC or a web browser is used. Most remote PC viewing is done with an installed application as it provides the greatest functionality. However, as web applications mature, more providers are offering powerful web viewing. The advantage of watching surveillance video using a web browser is that you do not have to install nor worry about upgrading a client.
* Mobile Viewing allows security operators in the field to immediately check surveillance video. As responders and roving guards are common in security, mobile viewing has great potential. Though mobile clients have been available for at least 5 years, they have never become mainstream due to implementation challenges with PDAs/phones. Renewed interest and optimism has emerged with the introduction of the Apple iPhone. Learn more about how Apple's iPhone is impacting mobile viewing.
* Video Wall Viewing is ideal for large security operation centers that have hundreds or thousands of cameras under their jurisdiction. Video walls provide very large screens so that a group of people can simultaneously watch. This is especially critical when dealing with emergencies. Video walls generally have abilities to switch between feeds and to automatically display feeds from locations where alarms have been triggered.

Motion Sensor Security Cameras For Your Family’s Safety

The best decision you can make to protect your home, whether it is a space saving, cosy condominium or a multi-storied mansion that spreads across the landscape, is to utilize motion sensor security cameras, video surveillance cameras, and the newest home security cameras.

As for smaller housing, those who rent houses and rent or own condos can use simple home security cameras which are able to trigger illumination or give sounding alarms with no need for wiring. Even when you are not attached to 24-hour monitoring, these types of motion sensing cameras can trip light and sound alarms. These simple installations can help to ward off many problems.

Motion sensor security cameras are able to link to a monitoring service, which will bump up the security level of any home. There are many options these days when it comes to motion sensor security cameras, which are available in a variety of sizes and security levels.

Night vision and colour surveillance cameras have recently become available to the general public. You can also buy an infra-red illumination that makes it easier to see small details or movement after it gets dark. There is usually at least one camera in any system of motion sensor security cameras that can be reserved for very vulnerable spots, and some systems provide for full coverage of sprawling homes with fifteen or more cameras.

In the majority of basic monitored motion systems, the necessary elements possess high levels of technical intelligence. You will find that sensors which are hard wired and reflexive infra-red movement detectors form the basics of standard alarm systems and they are connected to sensitive touch pads that are located about the home for status testing anywhere inside the house.

If you trip one of these sensors or movement detectors, then a call is triggered to a crisis response centre. It is one step before contacting the police, fire department or rescue agencies. You will notice that these are of great help when you are away from your home.

Today, high levels of technology go into video surveillance systems. This site http://www.securityideasonline.com can help you install systems with multiple cameras, including colour cameras both inside and outside your home. You can see the cameras’ images from any connected monitor in your house.

Protect All of the Access Points of Your Home

Security is unfortunately something that many home owners do not think about until either they or someone they know becomes the victim of a home invasion. Home security is not a topic that should be ignored until something actually happens. The importance of home security is a topic which all home owners should make sure they understand in order to avoid becoming the next victim on burglar's long list of targets.

One of the most important things that should be understood about home security is the different ways in which a burglar attempts to access a home. Sadly, many home invasions actually occur while the home owner is at home. Such brazen home invasions and burglaries can be frightening and dangerous. Estimates indicate that home owners have a one in six change of being the victim of a burglary.

The number one access point for most burglaries and home invasions is right through the front door. This may surprise most homeowners, but burglars have found that the front door is often the best place for them to gain access to a home. 34% of all home invasions occur through the front door, so it is important to make sure the front door is secured with a dead bolt, strong framed door and a home security alarm.
链接
The next most likely access point for home invasions are windows on the first floor. Quite surprisingly, many burglars find that gaining access to a home can be easier than they thought through windows that are unlocked. You can protect your home by locking your windows and using sensors on the windows connected to your home security system.

Running a close third is the back door on a home. Burglars tend to kick in back doors when they want to gain access to a home because the back door typically offers more privacy as a result of shrubbery and fences as well as the fact that it is often easier to break the lock on a back door. Protect your home by installing a secure back door and lock and making sure it is connected to your home security system as well.

The garage is another possible access point or burglars as well. This commonly occurs when home owners forget to close their garage door. Make sure that you always close your garage door and that your garage door is set up for your home security system.

The incidence of burglars gaining access through the basement is relatively low, but it is important to keep in mind that it is a possibility. Make sure you do not neglect this area when adding a home security system to your home, just in case.

Finally, make sure that any storage areas or any other entrances that provide access to your home are firmly secured. Remember that it only takes a few seconds for a burglar to gain access to your home but it could take years to recover from the horror of becoming the victim of a home invasion or burglary.

Burglar Alarm Systems In Changing Times

Now, most people in the United States genuinely accept the concept of the home security system as well as the more traditional need for burglar alarms in local businesses. We listen to the news. We have well developed apprehension of intruders invading our homes.

Although a large dog can offer some deterrent defence, it is intelligent to consider a quality home security system to protect our loved ones. It may not lick our face when we come home from work, but in this capricious existence, we never know what is going to occur next and, as the Boy Scouts say, we must "be prepared."

The concept of a burglar alarm system didn't appear to be in the mainstream when I was a child . I don't remember when I was young being anxious about a break in, but this was undoubtedly due to my father working in law enforcement, and in addition we were way out in a rural area. We certainly didn't have a burglar alarm. I mean, I knew wealthy men and women had security systems, and I had seen security alarm boxes outside numerous businesses, but it wasn't customary for most people to have such systems in their residence.

But enough about me ...

These days it doesn't genuinely make a difference where you reside, a burglar alarm system of some sort is a standard question for every home-owner. The increase in crime during the years definitely hasn't helped the circumstances any. Numerous families feel it's only a matter of time before they will experience the requirement to have one or another sort of alarm system or be sorry they didn't take action sooner.

The burglar alarm systems obtainable at the moment are quite high teach. They have sensors that effectively enclose your residence, permitting you to know if anyone is trying to gain entry anywhere. In addition, there are single "hot" buttons you can press to alert various authorities for assistance, which can be much quicker than telephoning the police. For people who can't get around well, this is a useful and critical security to have.

A panic room is a step further in this general approach. Such a room will permit you to go into a secured space that cannot be penetrated by intruders. You can't get significantly safer than that. You can store water and food supplies inside in case you have to remain there for days.

At the same time, these new-age devices are well worth your money if implemented correctly, especially if combined with a 24 hour monitoring service.

When in the market for a new home security system, it is wise to confer with neighbours and friends and look into several contrasting services and products. This way you ensure the best return for your dollar.

While the image of a home security system stirs relief in numerous minds, you have to be cautious of what's going on in actuality be certain of your safety. The devil is in the details. For example, you want to make certain your residence is secure within before arming the alarm system, because if the burglar is already inside, it's ineffectual. Some men and women literally forget this obligatory step.

A fool and his money are easily parted, so be sure you do your homework. The most extravagant security system not necessarily the finest. Elementary security devices such as cameras and window alarms can be purchased on-line at sensible prices.

Home Security Safes

Home security safe can be defined as a residential secure lockable container. Safes are used to protect items of value from damage or theft. A good safe is generally constructed from highly resistant materials such as steel. They are commonly designed as hollow cubes but can vary in size from walk-in vault safes to hidden safes concealable by a power-outlet panel or inside a "book." Should you be considering a home security safe, you have a wide array of options to select from. Before you install a security safe in your home. however, it is important to ensure you have chosen a safe that is right for your specific needs. Your first consideration should be in relation to the nature of the items you wish to safeguard. Most safes are specifically made to house a certain type of object, for example: money, valuables such as jewellery or family heirlooms, documents and firearms. It follows that the quality of the safe should be relative to the value of the items you wish to secure. There is little sense in investing a large sum in a safe which you'll only use to store items of lesser value or, contrarily selecting a cheaper, less reliable safe in which to keep your priceless antique jewellery.

Some other points to bear in mind before you install a security safe are where best to position it. You have your choice of a general standalone safe, a wall safe and a floor safe. Naturally all these safes come in different sizes to reflect various storage needs. A general safe is useful for securing miscellaneous items of value but do bear in mind that unless it is firmly anchored it will not prove as effective a deterrent to theft as a wall or floor safe. Losing your safe along with its contents is an even more regrettable prospect than the loss of the contents alone and therefore it is advisable to incorporate smaller, relatively light safes as permanent fixtures. Wall and floor safes offer a simple means of doing this as well as the advantage of concealment. Note that Wall safes may easily be obscured from unwelcome attention by such as paintings and bookshelves and in-floor safes by rugs or furniture. Another thinking point is the type of lock which you feel will best serve you. Safes are available with key locks, combination locks, electronic locks and also time locks, although these last are not really best suited for home security safes. An electronic lock offers perhaps the most security as it may be reprogrammed to accept a different code on a regular basis. It is also possible to find a combination of these lock types for extra security fail-safes. Finally, you will need to consider whether you need your safe to be proof against fire, water and impact.

Take care of your home security

Home security is a critical concern for any home owner. You can do more to insure the safety of your family and your valuables. Here are some tips to help you do a safety inventory on your home.

1. Lock your doors and windows

2. Have a night light
If you don't want to run a light all night (and who does these days with the cost of electricity?), install motion detectors that turn the light on when there is movement around your house.

3. Trims trees, hedges and bushes
Make your house easy to see from the neighbours or the street. If you make it harder to hide, burglars are less likely to rip-off your house.

An added advantage - they can monitor your home for fire as well. Most insurance companies will reduce home owner insurance costs by up to 20% for a monitored alarm system!

6. Compare you monitored alarm solution options
Compare Monitored Home Alarm Comparisons and decide which is best for you.

Choosing The Best Security Locks For Your Home

For those looking for the best security locks for their home a quick trip to Lowe's or Home Depot may be all it takes to find the locks that work best. However, out of the many security locks they offer certain ones will perform best on your home. In this article the http://www.securityideasonline.com will guide you through the process of selecting the best security locks for your home.

Security is an area of your life you shouldn't take for granted. Neither are the locks you put on the doors of your home. There are certain things you should look for while choosing security locks and weave put a list of some of the basic criteria together to make your decision easier.

Install only ANSI Grade 1 Security Locks Locks are classified by their security and durability by the American Standards Institute and then maintained by the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association. Grade 1 means these are some of the best security locks you can choose for your home security.

Install only locks with deadbolts. Do not choose any other type of latch device.

Install locks that cant be duplicated except by certain Locksmiths or the manufacturer themselves. New to the market these keys are called key controlled meaning they cant easily be duplicated. Key control is designed so that someone trusted doesn't allow the key to fall into the wrong hands where it can be duplicated.

Install security lock plates which are the portion metal which goes into the door frame. Security lock plates are larger and usually steel making the weakest part the door stronger. Using 3 or longer screws to secure the lock plate into the door frame. Burglars can easily kick a normal lock plate in while the door stays locked. But with a security lock plate and 3 screws it becomes much tougher.

One security flaw many people are susceptible to is buying doors with large glass windows which although they look good create an opportunity for a thief to break the glass and then reach in and open the lock from the other side.

If you want further information on purchasing security locks for your home one good place to turn is your local Police Department or Home Security System provider. Both should be able to do a security assessment of your home and make recommendations as needed.

Home Security - What You Need to Do!

Don't overlook your home security in the hurry to prepare for your vacation. Crime statistics show that every hour in the US 240 homes are burglarious. Most of these crimes happen when no one is home. Many of them could be prevented if the home owner had a home security system installed.

One of the easiest and effective courses of action that instantly boosts the security of your home and family is to install a home security alarm and surveillance camera. Home security monitoring options are available with a lot of these home security devices. Additional preventative measures do need to be put into practice as the installation of these products does not ensure you'll be exempt from trouble. Less expensive options include installing motion sensor lighting around your home. While external security is great, there is a lot you can do to increase security inside of your home. After checking the locks on all doors and windows, replace any that are deficient. Don't think it won't happen at my home, it does and it will.

Sliding glass doors can be very easy for a burglar to exploit. There are inexpensive devices on the market which will improve the security of your sliding doors. Or you can make your own by taking a section of broom handle and cutting it to fit in the track in which the door slides, and use it whenever you are away from home.

If you have a home safe make sure you use it to protect your most valuable items and keys that are used to protect your home and its contents. Personal and financial documents should also be kept in the safe as well. Anyone without a home safe can get even better protection by using a safe deposit box at the bank.

The easiest way to prevent a burglar from choosing your house as his target is to make it look like someone is at home. It is easy, inexpensive and effective to use timers to turn lights and appliances off and on at random times of the day. Make sure you spread the effect over several rooms of the house.

Other security measures include stopping your mail and paper deliveries. If you have two vehicles leave one parked in your driveway or ask a neighbour to park in your driveway while you are away. Leave a key with a trusted neighbour or relative and ask them to check your home periodically. Don't leave an answering machine message saying you away from home.

Make sure that all of your tools and equipment are put away and under lock and key. Something as simple as a ladder being left out is an invitation to a burglar to enter an upper story window. You can never make your home completely secure, but the harder you make it for the burglar, the more likely he is to go somewhere else.

One of the easiest and effective courses of action that instantly boosts the security of your home and family is to install a home security alarm and Home Security Cameras. A large number of these burglaries could be prevented by installing a Home Security System.

Security Bars -Are They Right For You?

Secure shutters, and in some situations security bars, can be useful in property both domestic and commercial property for protection and a sense of security.

Not all of us have the opportunity to live in a crime free area, which means that we may have to keep our possessions and family safe in different ways. Secure bars are one example of being able to keep your home protected.

Security bars, although they can look drastic can be the only measure to keep your home or commercial property safe. They are almost impenetrable to burglars, and can only be removed with electric power tools. This is enough to put off any opportunistic thief. Bars can also be used as a security device for keeping your children from falling out of high windows, or from animals entering your property.

Which security bars are right for you? There are a variety of secure bars that can be fitted to a property, ranging from the ornate to the purely functional. It all depends on what you require the bars to do. Some bars can be for light security, which in this case can have a quick release mechanism, whereas bars on commercial property may want to be securely drilled and bolted in.

Remember, that secure bars can never be relied upon to protect a property entirely, they should be used in conjunction with other safety and security measure such as CCTV and other security measures to provide full protection.

Home Security - How Burglars Pick a House

Many of us think that by simply locking the gates and front doors, it would be adequate to deter or even prevent your homes from being burglarious. However, despite such measures, a burglary is committed every 12 seconds. To protect your dwelling, learn to look at your home the way a burglar would scrutinize it for weak spots.

The first priority of any thief or burglar is completing the job without getting caught. Thus, the home with the least barriers are always prime targets for intruders.

An inexperienced burglar might just run in and grab whatever they can and get out. Others are a little more calculating in their approach. They will not really bother to force their way in unless the temptations are worthy of their time.

The main aim currently is to enter the house unobtrusively. Hence, few house break ins take place in the day. Houses which are well lit tend to discourage intruders, especially for areas with dark corners. As long as there is a point for entry, it should have abundant light.

Pay special care to corners that are not facing the main street or out of line of sight for other homes. If you have windows here, ensure they are prevented from opening with the use of metal dowels or latches. Additional lights that can shine on these areas would be a bonus.

Even windows with this extra protection can sometimes be removed from the frames. Here is a simple and affordable way to prevent this from happening.

You can begin by making a hole with a drill through the frames of the windows and into the wall itself. There are spring-loaded mechanisms available that will screw into the frame. These are similar to that found on some screen doors. You can also use a wooden or metal dowel to secure the window in the frame.

Burglars might even resort to cutting the glass or breaking it in order to force their way into the house if they really want to do so. There are security systems that take note of disturbances in the windows and it will trigger off alarms. A way to stop this is to install grills and iron bars at windows as well.

Make sure your hedges and bushes trim and tidy as it will allow for less hiding places for burglars and trespassers. If it is difficult to appear unobtrusive by hiding in the shadows while trying to break in, intruders will try to search for other weak spots.

They will take the opportunity when no one is home to try breaking in as it is safer for them. It makes perfect sense to know your neighbours well and socialize often with them to start a neighbourhood watch. It is a good idea for you to get someone to house sit for you while you are away.

If intruders want to enter your dwelling, they will try all ways and means to do it. by utilizing a few of these methods, it will help to deter intruders to some extent.

Security Door Locks

There are various types of security door locks that are available in today's markets, both on the internet and in security stores. Because everyone has different security needs, they are designed to fit a wide range of budgets, needs and wants. The types of Security Door locks found in the market range from simple deadbolts and chain and ball locks that can be found in almost every home, to locks that use technological advances that were unimaginable a few years ago.

Some of these include and are not limited to locks that use biometric information, such as fingerprint matching pads. Here, the users' fingerprints are in the security system and for access to be granted, one needs to place their fingers on the finer print pad to verify their identity. Another kind is digital locks that have keypads where the user needs to key in a security code into the keypad for access to be granted.

Various security concerns will influence the decision you make. This can be aided by research conducted on the internet, and added to that, when you go into the stores, you will find that there are experts in this field on hand to advise you and help make a decision. Having the locks is not enough. As the owner of these locks, you will need to understand and know how the different mechanisms of the locks work, how to install them and how to UN-install them, advantages and disadvantages of the locks you choose and also what the word on the street is regarding intruders and the ease with which they work on the various locks.

With increased insecurity, your first concern is the safety of your family's security or that of your business venture, and so you have to find ways and means of protecting what you hold dearest to you at whatever cost.

Make Your House a Safer Place

Forget house fires caused by cats being sick over television leads or freak electricity storms. Some of the most common causes of house fires include electrical appliances being left on, knobs not being switched off properly or smoking in bed.

We have all seen the pull your finger out and check your smoke alarm adverts fronted by Julie Walters. The government started the campaign to try and cut down the amount of fatal and non-fatal house fires in the UK that happen every year. In the adverts a serious Julie Walters urges residents to check their smoke alarms regularly to avoid the kind of devastation that house fires can cause families and communities.

It is true that many of us do not think to check our smoke alarms as often as we should do that goes to the bottom of the list but never gets done. This is despite the fact that checking is a simple task that merely requires the pushing of a button once every now and again. If the lives of your family are at stake then it is not a 'chore' that should be overlooked.

Even if you manage to get out alive and safe and the home insurance covers the material worth of your home, a house fire can still be devastating. Many irreplaceable items like photographs, jewellery, artwork and similar possessions with great sentimental value will be lost forever, never to be replaced.

The idea of all your worldly possessions going up in smoke is terrifying for most people. Unfortunately for most of us, the possibility of this happening seems a long way off. We always think that it will never happen to us. But it can, all too easily.

If you don't even have a smoke alarm then you can call your local fire station or the Fire Rescue Service and get them to come to your house and fit a smoke alarm for free. Testing your smoke alarm weekly, planning an escape route and checking that all electrical appliances are correctly switched off in your kitchen are some of the things you could do to make your house safer from the threat of accidental fire. Smoke alarms can save lives but only if they work!

Indoor Gates

Gates are not just for the outside for privacy or security. It is quite common to see a gate inside a home, such as for pets or small children. They are best used at the top or bottom of a stairway, between rooms or even at the main door of your home. When you have a gate in place, you can be assured that your toddler or pert will stay in the room and not be able to wander off into a dangerous area.

There are three types of gates used in homes. These are:

* Pressure-Mounted: These do not need any hardware. There is a simple pressure mechanism that keeps them in place as long as the space is not too wide.
* Hardware-Mounted: You do need hardware to attach these to the walls, doorway or even to furniture. This makes the gate secure and permanent, but they are harder to install than the pressure-mounted varieties.
* Customizable: There are interlocking sections so that you can configure the gate in various ways. Also, you can close off a larger space with this type.

The type of gate you buy depends on your need and the space you want to bar off. If you have a pet, you can get a gate that will extend in height thus being well-suited to a growing puppy. Check out the different types of gates on the market and do your research on them. While one type may appeal because it looks good, it may not be as safe and secure as you want it to be. On the other hand, you might not really like the look of the gate that is rated as being the safest.

Hidden Cameras or out in the open?

Once you've made your choice, you need to decide how to go about it. It might actually be better to put any surveillance system out in the open. It depends heavily on what the point of the system is. Does your kid have a problem with drugs or alcohol? A camera system probably won't stop that, but it could keep it out of your house. And for that goal, it works better if your child actually knows about it. Something like this is probably better used as a consequence for misbehaviour, not as a hidden way to uncover it. Using drugs in your house poses serious risks to your property - the government can seize it and take it away from you. If, after you have caught your child doing something of that nature, you immediately install cameras out in the open, it is much more credible as a punishment, and there is really no basis for your child to object. The likely consequence is going to be that your child just goes elsewhere to do whatever activities you're worried about - but it will keep it out of your house. A hidden camera is much more likely to actually catch be behaviour on tape. But remember that if you don't have a real basis for doing this, you could permanently damage your relationship with your child. This is a serious and drastic step to take as a parent. Some kids need shocks like this - if they're well down the road towards an unacceptable lifestyle, some parents end up being forced to use radical measures. But remember that the vast majority of kids should never be subjected to something like this. If you're not dead certain, it's best just to stay away from the whole idea.

Should I spy on my kids?(2)

The moral issues come first. Using a security camera to monitor your kids is an extreme decision. You basically only control your own house, so you could install one in your kid's room. You should ask yourself first "is my kid really that bad?" The answer is probably no - but some kids will end up doing stupid things. If there's a serious risk to your kid's life or health, then you can feel much more comfortable doing it. The second thing to ask yourself is whether you actually have proof that your child has been engaging in something criminal or dangerous or whether you're just suspicious and want to install a camera to catch them. Suspicion alone is probably not a good reason to stick a hidden camera in your child's room. All parents have these suspicions from time to time - but if you're wrong, you've just eliminated your child's privacy on a whim. They are people too, and while you're the parent, you also have to show them respect and care for their rights as a human being. It can be a different story if you actually know that your child has been doing something. It's hard to make the case that you are unfairly refusing to trust your child if you've already caught them red-handed with drugs, or if they've been arrested for them. In that case, they have violated your trust - and it is not unreasonable to think they might do it again.

Should I spy on my kids?(1)

One of the new issues that hidden security camera technology has created is a parenting issue: is it OK to use cameras to spy on your kids? This is ultimately an issue for you to answer for yourself, because it has serious consequences for your relationship with your child. However, there are often situations where a parent would feel perfectly justified "spying" on what their kid is doing. You need to sit down and think through the consequences first, however, because this decision is one that says a lot about how much you trust your children (or don't) and it will surely cause extreme anger with your kids if they ever find out

Types and Operation of Motion Detectors

Motion detector systems use a variety of methods to detect movement. Each method has advantages and disadvantages. Infra-red detectors sense heat, and can detect an intruder’s radiating body heat. Most infra-red detectors are passive, meaning they do not send out signals but merely receive signals, such as changes in temperature. Microwave and ultrasonic detectors are active—that is, they send out waves of energy and receive waves reflected back by objects. Any disturbance in the reflected waves caused by a moving object will trigger an alarm. Video systems optically monitor an area, and movement is registered visually on a monitor. Often, these methods are combined to improve accuracy and reduce chances of a false alarm.

Motion Detector's introduction

Motion Detector, type of electronic security device that senses movement and usually triggers an alarm. Many types of motion detectors can sense motion in total darkness, without an intruder becoming aware that an alarm has been triggered.

Motion detectors are an important part of most burglar alarm systems. They help alert security personnel, especially in situations where no obvious break-in has occurred. For instance, if an intruder steals a key to gain access to a protected site or hides within the site during normal business hours, the intruder’s entrance or presence could go unnoticed. A motion detector will detect the intruder’s movements as soon as he or she walks or otherwise moves within the area protected by the detector.

Motion detectors usually protect indoor areas, where conditions can be more closely controlled. Detectors for use in homes usually detect movement in spaces about 11 m × 11 m (35 ft × 35 ft) in area. Detectors for large warehouses can protect areas with dimensions as large as 24 m × 37 m (80 ft × 120 ft). Buildings with valuable or important assets, such as museums, also use motion detectors to detect break-ins at vulnerable points. Such points include walls, doors, windows, skylights, and even air ducts. Special motion detectors can protect the inside of exhibit cases where items such as diamonds are displayed. Others can be focused to a narrow area of coverage, somewhat like a curtain, that is projected in front of a painting to detect even the slightest touch.

Burglary

Burglary, in law, the crime of breaking into and entering the dwelling of another with felonious intent, whether or not the felony is actually perpetrated. English common law defined burglary as housebreaking at night only; in the United States, however, statutes vary from state to state. Some retain the common-law definition; others include housebreaking by day. To constitute burglary, breaking and entering must be inferred as, for example, gaining admission through a trick or threat or by raising a window and putting the hand inside with intent to steal, without bodily entrance.

In the U.S. other variables that affect the nature of the crime and influence the punishment include the type of structure involved (for example, whether it is a home, a store, or an office), whether the structure is occupied at the time of entry, the means used to obtain entry, the presence or absence of a weapon on the intruder, and the crime committed or intended after entry. In most of the U.S., entry into a movable structure, such as a train or boat or an air plane, with intent to commit a felony also constitutes burglary. Although burglary is usually committed for the purpose of theft, it may be charged against other offenders, including murderers, rapists, and kidnappers.

Modern Surveillance Technology

Modern surveillance technology, such as these monitoring screens in a business complex in San Francisco, California, allows security forces to track the movement of people going in and out of buildings. Banks and businesses that deal with highly sensitive materials and equipment often secure their buildings by using cameras to relay video images to a central monitoring location. Security officers keep watch over the screens and can act if they witness a crime.

Why do you need a Home Security System?

The prime reason for choosing a home security system is obviously to safeguard against theft burglary and other crimes. Having a security system boosts the credibility when it comes to selling your house. They may be helpful to demand a higher rent from your tenant. Moreover when you take up a home insurance the insurance company will be immediately pleased to insure your household if you have home protection system like wireless home security system or burglar alarm security system.

Unfortunately burglary happens to be a crime that is committed often in the United States of America. The rate of burglary is very high and they occupy the fourth position next only to murder, car theft larceny and rape. Officials believe that a proper security system will help to avoid more than 92% of the burglary. Similarly if a house is without a proper security system the chances that it is burglarious are higher and 4 times more than a house that has a security system. It has also been found that for every 16 seconds one house is burgled in United States of America.

Should You Install home security system?

Burglary, ransacking and theft of properties in house happening are not new.
The rates of crimes are only on the increase. However technology has also blessed us with many virtues. One such boon of technology is the protection. The intervention of wireless home security system has greatly helped people to check the related crimes to a great extent.
Whom/What are you trying to Protect? This is a fundamental issue to be considered before deciding to buy a home security system. If your intention is to protect your family members and other people you must see to that sufficient safety provisions are available and that they are not harmed even if there is a burglary. Sufficient safety measures indicate that they must be able to give a red alert to the police and be protected even before the burglar tries to attack them. On the other hand if your intention is to provide the property you must make sure that you are able to deal the burglars before they confiscate the property and before police forces come to your rescue.
